Building a business is hard. Let's not sugar coat it! The last thing I want to do is send a message to first-time entrepreneurs that you can simply setup an online store and people will start flocking to it to buy your products. I'm sure what you're selling is amazing, but unfortunately it just doesn't work that way. If you want to be successful, you need to put in the work, stay patient and keep learning.
Starting a business is like jumping off a cliff and building a plane on the way down – LinkedIn founder, Reid Hoffman
You know that saying, "Nothing worth doing is ever easy". Well, it pretty much rings true for most things in life.
If you want to lose 10 lbs, what do you need to do? You can improve your diet, by swapping that chocolate bar for a piece of fruit 😢 or eating smaller portion sizes. You could go for a 30 minute walk or jog each day. Or, you could combine diet and exercise to get you to your goal faster. What's the point? The point is that no matter what you do to achieve your goal, it requires time and effort on your part to make it happen. You're not going to magically lose the weight if you don't change the way you've always done things. It doesn't matter how much you want it, if you don't do something about it, your circumstance won't change.
So, don't be one of those people that sets up an online store and expects everyone to visit it and buy from you. It takes hard work. If you want it bad enough, put in the work.
Build it and they will come is the motto of a fool.
Some of you have the "work hard" thing down pat. You've been doing the long hours. Some of you have been working hard for months, maybe even a year or two. Well, this next piece of advice is for you and is often the thing that separates those that are successful and those that have fallen short. You need to stay patient.
Building a business is a marathon not a sprint.
For some of you the best thing you can do for your business right now is to go on a holiday or just take a step back for a week. It's easy to get burned out when you're putting in the hours day after day, week after week, month after month. It can get really tiring, and sometimes a step back is all you need to get some fresh vision for your business and some new ideas to take it to the next level.
Good things take time. Don't give up so soon. Keep going and stay patient!
I love these 2 images. It's so true...
It's easy to get caught up in the day to day of your business. List some new products, ship some orders, answer your emails, post some social media updates etc etc. But, don't forget to take the time out to learn.
You don't have all the answers and you don't know everything. And, that is OK! Truly accepting that is actually quite freeing. There's so much great content online (and on this blog!) that will give you ideas on how to drive more traffic to your store, optimize your store for better conversions etc. One of the ideas you learn could completely change the growth trajectory of your business. Take the time to learn - you won't regret it.

Remembering these 3 things -- Work Hard. Stay Patient. Keep Learning. -- have helped me incredibly whilst building Zibbet. I hope it will help you too.
P.S. If you want a constant reminder, add this image as your phone's wallpaper.
Don't ever give up. You've got this! 👊
